What Is Financial Astrology? A Plain-Language Introduction
Where financial astrology comes from, how it reads markets, and what it can and cannot tell you.
A very old question
People have watched the sky to understand the rhythm of trade for as long as there have been markets. Babylonian astronomer-priests recorded planetary positions next to the price of barley and wool. Medieval astrologers read eclipses and great conjunctions for harvests and kingdoms. In the early twentieth century some well-known traders charted planetary cycles alongside price charts. Financial astrology is the modern form of that old question: do the cycles above line up with the cycles of markets?
The two basic ideas
Financial astrology rests on two ideas. The first is the chart: a market instrument, like a person, is given a birth moment, such as the first trade of a stock or the genesis block of a coin, and the sky at that moment becomes its natal chart. The second is the transit: the planets keep moving, and as they pass over sensitive points of that chart, astrologers read the themes those points stand for as being activated.
On top of these sits mundane astrology, which reads the sky for the collective: eclipses, slow-planet seasons and the condition of the planets as a whole, applied to the market at large.
Vedic or Western?
There are two main schools. Western astrology mostly uses the tropical zodiac, tied to the seasons. Vedic astrology, from India, uses the sidereal zodiac, tied to the stars, and adds tools such as nakshatras and dasha periods. AstroFinex works in the Vedic, sidereal tradition throughout, with the Lahiri ayanamsa, so its signs and dates differ from most horoscopes by about 24 days.
What it can tell you
At its best, financial astrology is a calendar with a point of view. It marks the dates the tradition considers important, such as retrograde stations, eclipses and full moons, and it describes the mood the tradition associates with each period: building, testing, releasing, balancing. Many people use it as one more lens on timing, alongside their own research.
What it cannot tell you
It cannot tell you what a price will do. Careful tests of astrological market timing have not shown reliable predictive power, and AstroFinex grades its own published direction against real prices: it lands close to a coin flip. That is why every AstroFinex reading uses the wording 'the tradition reads it higher' or 'lower' rather than a forecast, and why none of it is financial advice.
How AstroFinex approaches it
AstroFinex is a deterministic engine. Every reading is computed from exact planetary positions, so the same sky always gives the same answer, and every reading can be traced back to the positions behind it. The global market weather is a mundane reading of the whole sky; each instrument reading combines the current sky with that instrument's verified natal chart. Nothing is invented: when the data for a period does not exist, there is no reading.
