Transit
A transit is the current position of a planet, read against a natal chart or against the market as a whole.
What it is
Planets never stop moving. Their positions today are called transits. When a transiting planet reaches a sensitive point of a natal chart, such as one of its planets or houses, astrologers say the transit is 'hitting' that chart.
How the tradition reads it
Slow planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu) set the long background; fast ones (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) set the timing of days and weeks. A transit means more when it happens inside a matching dasha period.

Every daily, weekly and monthly reading is a transit reading: the current sky against each instrument's chart, or against the market as a whole in the global reading.
