Sidereal Zodiac

The sidereal zodiac measures the signs against the actual star background; AstroFinex uses it throughout.

What it is

There are two ways to define the zodiac. The tropical zodiac, used by most Western astrologers, starts each year at the spring equinox. The sidereal zodiac, used in Vedic astrology, is tied to the fixed stars. Because Earth's axis slowly wobbles, the two have drifted apart by about 24 degrees, nearly a whole sign.

Why it matters

The same planet can be in different signs depending on the zodiac used. If a horoscope says the Sun is in Libra, in the sidereal zodiac it is usually still in Virgo.

In AstroFinex

Every sign and date AstroFinex shows comes from one sidereal zodiac, with the Lahiri ayanamsa. Charts, calendars, cards and notifications always agree.
